About this tool
The Crypto PnL Calculator works out the profit or loss on a trade — long or short, with optional leverage and trading fees — given your entry price, exit price, and position size. It shows both the dollar amount and the return on the margin actually used, which is what leverage really changes. This is a calculator, not financial advice, and doesn't account for funding rates, slippage, or liquidation risk.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between PnL and ROI here?
PnL is the raw dollar profit or loss. ROI (return on margin) expresses that as a percentage of the margin you actually committed — with 5x leverage, the margin used is only 1/5th of the position's value, so the same dollar profit represents a much larger percentage return on your committed capital.
Does this account for funding rates or liquidation?
No — this calculates spot-style PnL from entry to exit price only. Perpetual futures positions also accrue funding payments over time, and leveraged positions can be liquidated before your target exit price if the market moves against you enough; neither is modeled here.
How are fees calculated?
The fee percentage you enter is applied to both the entry and exit trade value (a common 'taker fee on both sides' assumption) and subtracted from the gross profit to give net PnL.
